Walking in Westerwolde
Westerwolde, the walking area of the North. Forest, heathland, winding paths and beautiful water plains provide a special variety during walking. Put on good shoes and look around you. Enjoy nature. There are 35 hiking trails in the entire region. By car you can go to different starting places to start your walk.
But there are also 2 walking routes at the park. The Gaast of 3 km and the Kerkepad of 5.5 km. Both can be extended in Wedde. The Kerkepad runs across the park, via the recreation lake to Wedde. The name comes from the past. Residents of Wedderveer walked through this path to the church in Wedde.
Stories route
In addition, you can walk a story route of 8.5 km in Wedde. The trail leads you through a varied landscape and along beautiful locations with special stories. Stories about witch burnings, wolves hunting, the castle, a well-traveled innkeeper, the saddle bank and more. Centuries of history that can be experienced within walking distance and in a beautiful setting of nature, landscape and cultural history.

Tip: go to Smeerling by car or bike and walk Route 11, “From Voorde tot Voorde”.
The walking route is about 4 kilometers long.
Westerwolde Walking Weekend
Every year a walking weekend is organized. This year the start is near our park! Saturday is the fun and Saturday with a route of 10 kilometers. This walking tour is run in the evening. Theater, music and stories in the special atmosphere of the evening hours.
Sunday is the walking day with a route of 12.5 and a route of 25 kilometers. Nice walk and enjoy the surroundings.
